Tara June Winch’s first novel Swallow the Air received the 2006 Victoria Premier’s Award for Indigenous Literature and was short listed for the Age book of the year.

Winch is of Wiradjuri, Afghan and English heritage. She was born in 1983, and lives outside Sydney. She is ambassador for Indigenous Literacy Day and is on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Board of the Australia Council.

Winch has won the David Unaipon Award for Indigenous Writers, the NSW Premiers Literary Award for New Writing, the Dobbie Award for Womens Writers, the Sydney Morning Herald Best Young Australian Novelist and been shortlisted for the Queensland Premiers Award for Short Story collection among others.
