Markus Zusak is an award winning author of a number of books for young adults, including I Am the Messenger, which received a 2006 Printz Honor for excellence in young adult literature. Zusak's first novel for adults, The Book Thief was published in 2005. He lives in Sydney with his wife and daughter.

Markus Zusak’s first book, The Underdog, was critically acclaimed in Australia, published internationally and translated into several languages. He followed up his initial success with Fighting Ruben Wolfe, which was shortlisted for the Australian Children's Book Council Book of the Year Award. Zusak's latest novel, The Book Thief, debuted at number three on the New York Times Bestseller List. Film rights for The Book Thief have been optioned by Fox 2000.
