Judy Watson / Artist biography
Judy Watson's matrilineal Waanyi inheritance is her artistic touchstone and she has explored aspects of her heritage through the mediums of printmaking, drawing, painting and a series of major public art commissions. During her numerous residencies and journeys abroad, Watson has observed other cultures and used her experiences to enrich her understanding of her own.

Watson co-represented Australia at the 1997 Venice Biennale and has completed numerous public art commissions in Australia, international projects in India, Italy, France and the United States and exhibited widely over the last 20 years. Watson's survey exhibition, sacred ground beating heart: works by Judy Watson 1989-2003, opened in Perth in 2003 and went on to tour South East Asia.
