John Mawurndjul is a leading Indigenous Australian artist, and one of the eight artists whose work is now part of the largest international commission of contemporary Indigenous art from Australia at the Musée du quai Branly, Paris.

John Mawurndjul is a Kuninjku bark painter and sculptor. During the 1990’s Mawurndjul’s work was included in major overseas exhibitions dealing with Indigenous Australian art such as In the heart of Arnhem Land, France (2001). In September 2005, Mawurndjul held a retrospective of his work at the Musée Jean Tinguely in Basel, Switzerland. In 2005 and 2006, he worked on a major commission for the new Musée du quai Branly, Paris. 2007 saw Mawurndjul become the first aboriginal artist to show at Cornice Art Fair, part of the prestigious Venice Biennale.
