Christian Thompson is one of Australia’s leading conceptual photographic and installation artists.
Christian Thompson / Artist biography
Melbourne photographer, installation artist, curator and writer, Thompson graduated from RMIT with a Master of Fine Arts in 2004. He is a Bidjara man of the Kunja Nation from southwest Queensland and is also of German-Jewish heritage. His work examines the inconsistencies and misrepresentations of Aboriginality by the dominant culture.

Thompson has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally, including shows in Thailand, The Netherlands, Finland, Singapore, Canada, France, and Italy. His work was shown in the exhibition: Andy & OZ: Parallel Visions, Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, 2007. Thompson completed a curatorial internship at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) and is the Director of the MHUL Workshop at ACMI, an ideas workshop for Indigenous artists focused on invigorating practice through exposure to dynamic and contemporary art and working methods.
