Stephen Page danced with the Sydney Dance Company before being appointed Bangarra's artistic director in 1991. Stephen Page choreographed the flag handover ceremony for the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996 and directed the Indigenous segments of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. Stephen Page has been recognised for his contribution to Indigenous art and culture and in 2008 was named NSW Australian of the Year.
