Introduction
OzArts is the Australia Council for the Arts program of market development initiatives to showcase the best of Australia’s contemporary arts to the world. Its aim is to promote high-quality, 'export-ready’ contemporary Australian arts to key international decision makers.
Through the OzArts website and other promotional tools, OzArts profiles a broad spectrum of the Australian arts – dance, literature, music, theatre, and visual arts and crafts – and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, and artists whose work is performed for young people.
For promoters, the OzArts website features Australian artists with high-quality, ready-to-export products. It also includes a calendar of tours, exhibitions, events and other activities by Australian artists on the road overseas. Together these features are a dynamic showcase of new artists and their works and a handy guide to where to see Australian artists and their work overseas.
For the Australian arts sector, OzArts helps raise the overall profile of Australian contemporary artists working in the international arena and ensures an ongoing visibility and presence. The website is a valuable source of information and contacts – from agents to managers, dealers to publishers and contacts for international festivals, promoters, arts events, books fairs and art fairs – who are key to developing business relationships in the international marketplace.
The OzArts website is updated continually, and new features are added on a regular basis to ensure it remains the definitive resource about the Australian arts scene.
OzArts Eligibility
The Australia Council for the Arts will manage the OzArts website for the period 2008-2011 and has redeveloped the site to promote artists and companies profiled as part of its strategic international market development activities over the next three years.
Priority will be given to artists and companies profiled as part of the Australia Council’s international market development activities such as Australia’s representation in major international recurrent arts events including performing arts markets and conferences, trade exhibitions, industry markets and visual arts biennials - for example, the Venice Biennale, the Australian Performing Arts Market (APAM) and the Frankfurt Book Fair.
The Australia Council does not have the capacity at this stage to promote every individual Australian arts project, company, exhibition, performance and tour that falls outside of our strategic activities. The Australia Council will however consider broadening the eligibility for inclusion on OzArts in the next phase of the site’s redevelopment and after considering available internal resources and priorities.

International Performing Arts Markets - Travel Fund
The Australia Council’s market development section will co-ordinate an Australian presence at a range of international performing arts markets in 2008/09 to increase international touring opportunities for Australian contemporary performing arts.
Market development will co-ordinate an Australian presence at the following international performing arts markets in 2008/09:
CINARS: International Exchange for the Performing Arts: 17 – 23 November 2008, Montreal, Canada
Including a booth, delegation and promotional activities.
APAP: Association of Performing Arts Presenters Conference: 9 -13 January 2009, New York, USA
Including a booth, delegation and promotional activities.
WAA: Western Arts Alliance Conference: 31 August – 4 September 2009, Phoenix, USA
Including a booth, delegation and promotional activities.
PAMS: Performing Arts Market Seoul: early October 2009, Seoul, South Korea
Including a delegation and promotional activities.
There are numerous international performing arts markets staged throughout the year:
- Market development will respond to travel requests for other key international performing arts markets where applicants have an existing relationship to the market.
- Travel support for these market events is available on a case-by-case basis, tied to the assessment criteria and available resources.
Please refer to the OzArts Directory for details of other international performing arts markets.
The list of markets where market development co-ordinates an Australian presence will be updated each financial year to respond to market changes and sector priorities.
In addition, market development will co-ordinate an Australian presence within the IETM Network at both the Autumn Plenary (6 - 9 November 2008, Zurich, Switzerland) and Spring Plenary (May 2009, location TBC). Given this is not a performing arts market, market development will continue discussions with IETM and the sector, based upon previous engagement with this network, to coordinate the Australian presence at the November and May meetings.

Sounds Australia
The Sounds Australia brand has been developed to create a unified look and feel when representing Australia at international music fairs and markets.
The Australia Council for the Arts developed the Sounds Australia brand in association with Austrade, State and Territory arts agencies and key music industry organisations and representatives.
The brand identity uses colours, textures and a logo that represents the Australian music landscape in a unique and eye-catching way to help our industry stand out in the international marketplace.
In order for our brand to remain effective and consistent, these guidelines have been developed to explain the elements that make up the Sounds Australia brand, and the correct use of them.
The Australia Council invites and encourages the Australian music industry to use these guidelines and the Sounds Australia brand when representing and promoting Australian music internationally.
